Windows 8 Driver Install Error

Article ID: 24097 Email Print

When installing the print driver on Windows 8, I'm getting an error.

In Windows 8 on a 64 bit operating system, you must disable the Driver Signature Enforcement to install the 64 bit Laser Dashboard Drivers for Epilog's laser systems.  Once the Driver Signature Enforcement is disabled the system will reboot, then you will be able to install the driver. Upon system reboot, the Driver Signature Enforcement will default back to enabled, but once the Dashboard Driver is installed for the first time, you can install a new version without having to disable it again in Windows.

To disable Driver Certification Enforcement in Windows 8:

  1. Open the Charms Bar in Windows 8 and select “Settings”.

  2. Select “Change PC Settings”.

  3. Select “General."

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the General page and select "Restart Now" under "Advanced Start-Up."

  5. Once the PC comes back up, select "Troubleshoot."

  6. Select "Advanced Options."

  7. Select "Start-Up Settings."

  8. Select the Restart button.

  9. Press either the F7 key or the number 7 key from your computer keyboard. This disables the Driver Signature Enforcement, which will allow you to install a printer driver.

After pressing either key, your computer will reboot.  Now, log in as normal and go to the Control Panel. Select "Devices and Printers" and you are ready to install the driver as illustrated in your Epilog Owner's manual.

Your PC will reboot and, once completed, you can install the Dashboard Driver.

Because the Windows 8 desktop is so different than any previous version of Windows, we've included one way to get to the Control Panel below. There are many paths that will get you to the Control Panel, so use whichever method you are comfortable with.

  1. Open the Charms Bar and select the Search icon.

  2. Type "Control Panel" into the search box. As you type, the cons that do not start with a "c" immediately start to disappear.

  3. Select the Control Panel icon.

  4. Select Devices and Printers. You can now install the print driver.
