Optics Cleaning – Fusion Maker, Edge, and Pro

This document details how to properly clean the Fusion Maker, Edge, and Pro carriage optics.

Introduction

Proper lens maintenance is essential to ensure optimal performance and prolong the life of your Fusion Laser system. Over time, dust, smoke, and debris can accumulate on the lens, reducing beam quality and potentially causing damage. Regular cleaning helps maintain consistent cutting and engraving results while protecting critical optical components. Always follow the recommended cleaning procedures carefully to avoid scratching or damaging the lens surface. The increased aperture lens functions the same as the standard lens. Follow the same cleaning procedure for both types.

  • Clean the lens and mirrors daily as part of your routine maintenance.
  • Perform a more detailed cleaning once a month, especially to access hard-to-reach areas like the bottom of the lens.

Daily Maintenance Cleaning

  1. Remove the lens and carriage mirror.

    • Steps to Remove Carriage Optics

      1. Disconnect tubing from lens.

      2. Loosen thumb screws on carriage cover and slide cover open.

      3. Loosen mirror thumb screw and remove mirror.

      4. Use Manual Focus Gauge to loosen lens nut and remove lens.

  2. Apply several drops of lens cleaner to a high quality cotton swab.

Additional Optics

In addition to the carriage-mounted optics, the Fusion Laser system includes multiple steering mirrors located along the beam path. These mirrors are essential for accurately guiding the laser beam from the source to the lens. While they don’t require daily cleaning, it’s important to inspect and clean them periodically as part of your maintenance routine. Use the same lens-safe cleaning solution and a high-quality cotton swab. Accessing these mirrors may require removing panels or covers. Always ensure the system is powered off and follow all appropriate safety procedures during cleaning.
