Focus Calibration Wizard

Step-by-step guide to using the Focus Calibration Wizard, available in firmware version 1.1.2.1 and later.

Introduction

The Focus Calibration Wizard is a guided tool designed to help you precisely calibrate your laser’s focus settings based on the lens you’re using. The Focus Calibration Wizard is available in firmware versions 1.1.2.1 or later. Accurate focus is essential for achieving optimal engraving and cutting results. This wizard will walk you through the step-by-step process of selecting your lens type, running a calibration test, and entering the correct settings to ensure your laser operates at peak performance.

Note: If you’re not sure of the lens aperture, remove the lens cone and measure it:
    • The 1-inch aperture lens cone measures about 1.4 inches.

    • The 0.75-inch aperture lens cone measures about 1 inch.

  6. Select Standard.

Note: Use the standard focal height lens. Accessory lenses, like the 4″ lens for cutting thicker material, require the Advanced Workflow.

    Select Standard

  7. Insert a piece of anodized aluminum into the machine and press Trace.

Note: Use 0.025″ thick anodized aluminum – the same material used for camera calibration and the default demo job.

    Insert anodized aluminum and trace

  8. Make sure the material is positioned directly under the trace outline, then click Proceed.

    Align material and proceed

  9. Press Prepare, then click Proceed.

Advanced Workflow

The Advanced Workflow is available for users who are unable to complete the standard calibration process, are using an accessory lens (such as a 4-inch), or prefer a more manual, traditional calibration method. This workflow provides greater control and flexibility, allowing you to manually input focus settings and run custom calibration procedures. It’s ideal for experienced users or situations where the standard wizard does not provide the desired results.

You’ll begin by selecting your own speed and power settings, entering the material thickness, and placing your test material in the machine. During the calibration job, the laser will run a 2X2 engraving while you manually raise and lower the bed. By carefully adjusting the focus height in real time, you can identify the position that produces the brightest mark. This method allows for fine-tuning the focus point, making it especially useful for non-standard lenses.
