{"id":17921,"date":"2024-09-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fusion-pro\/getting-started\/using-margins-to-preview-your-engraving\/"},"modified":"2025-03-31T14:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T20:10:06","slug":"using-margins-to-preview-your-engraving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fibermark\/software-techniques\/using-margins-to-preview-your-engraving\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Margins to Preview Your Engraving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a helpful tip, we\u2019ll show how to use margins in the Epilog Dashboard to preview the engraving to make sure our photo quality is ideal.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Prepare-Artwork\">Prepare the Artwork<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be engraving this photo on a wood plaque.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Engraved Image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_01.jpg\" alt=\"we will be engraving this photo of a man and his dog\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, we\u2019ll process the photo in PhotoLaser Plus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Import the image onto a 12\u201d x 10\u201d page.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Resize Image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_02.jpg\" alt=\"resize the image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Resize the image so it fits the entire plaque size.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Move the photo so the part we want engraved is placed on the plaque.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Position the image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_03.jpg\" alt=\"position the image\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select Image &gt; Image Size.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Change the image size\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_04.jpg\" alt=\"change image size\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Set the Resolution to 600 x 600 to match the dpi we\u2019ll use to engrave the photo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Set Resolution\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_05.jpg\" alt=\"change the resolution to match the dpi\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click Apply.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Select Transform &gt; PhotoLaser &gt; Interactive.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Set Interactive\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_06.jpg\" alt=\"select the interactive setting\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select the materials folder.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Set Material\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_07.jpg\" alt=\"select the materials folder\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Choose Wood Setting 600 DPI Epilog Large Images and Open.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Select Wood 600\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_08.jpg\" alt=\"select wood setting\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unselect Exclude White and press OK.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Uncheck Exclude White\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_09.jpg\" alt=\"remove the checkbox for exclude white\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the photo has been process, print the file to the laser.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Print to the Laser\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_10.jpg\" alt=\"Print to the laser\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Test-Engraving\">Test Engraving using Margins<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019ll engrave a small piece of the whole engraving on a piece of scrap wood.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pull the margins from each side to the edge of the piece of scrap wood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Align Margins\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_11.jpg\" alt=\"Slide margins to wrap around scrap wood\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Move a dark part of the engraving over the wood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Align Image\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_12.jpg\" alt=\"align the image to test engraving\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Choose the wood photo settings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Click Material Library Icon\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_13.jpg\" alt=\"select the material library icon\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Select Setting\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_14.jpg\" alt=\"select the wood photo engraving setting\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll change it to 600 dpi to match our settings in PhotoLaser Plus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Increase the speed to 50%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And set it to bottom-up engraving.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Start the job at the laser and see if the results meet your expectations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Run Test Engraving\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/using-margins-for-preview_15.jpg\" alt=\"Engrave and inspect your settings\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Good contrast, and the laser is seeing lots of detail. Looks good!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Final-Engraving\">Final Engraving<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019re ready to engrave our full plaque.
