{"id":17939,"date":"2024-09-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fusion-pro\/getting-started\/optics_fusion\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T10:18:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T17:18:26","slug":"optics_fusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fusion-m2\/cleaning\/optics_fusion\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleaning Your Optics"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"Move-X_Axis-Assembly\">Move X-Axis Assembly<\/h2>\n<p>To start the optics cleaning procedure, with the machine powered on, use the control panel to scroll down to \u2018Jog.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then use the joystick to move the x-axis assembly toward the middle of the machine to provide you easier access to the lens assembly and mirrors.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shut off the laser and remove the power cord from the machine.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_03.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_04.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Remove-Panels\">Remove Panels<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s open up the left side of the machine.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the two panels on the left side of the machine by using a 5\/32\u201d hex key to turn the black panel locks \u00be of the way counter-clockwise.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_05.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_06.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also remove the panel on the back left corner of the machine by removing the six Phillips-head screws.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_07.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Optics-Overview\">Optics Overview<\/h2>\n<p>Near the back of the machine is the periscope housing that directs the laser beam from the laser tube to the top of the machine.<\/p>\n<p>This contains a mirror at the bottom and at the top, as well as a window across from the top mirror where the beam exits the housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_08.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_09.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The beam then travels forward to the end of the x-axis assembly, where a third mirror directs it down the x-axis of the machine.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_10.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, a fourth mirror directs the beam down toward the work area through the main lens, which focuses the beam for cutting and engraving.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_11.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_12.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mirrors in the periscope housing are enclosed, and will likely require cleaning less often than the other components of the optics system.<\/p>\n<p>The other components are exposed to dust, smoke, and other debris and should be cleaned regularly as part of your routine maintenance.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Lens-Assembly\">Cleaning Optics in the Lens Assembly<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s begin with the lens assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the lens assembly by loosening the three thumb screws on its front face until they spin freely. They are captive screws and will not come out of the assembly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_13.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the assembly out of its housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_14.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apply lens cleaner to a cotton swab and use it to gently clean and dry both sides of the lens.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_15.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_16.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before returning the lens assembly to its housing, let\u2019s clean the mirror.<\/p>\n<p>Loosen the black screw on top of the lens assembly housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_17.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide out the mirror and gently clean and dry it with a cotton swab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_18.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_19.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the mirror back in and retighten the black screw.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_20.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Return the lens assembly to its housing and tighten the three screws on its front face.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_21.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_22.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"X_Axis-Mirror\">X-Axis Assembly Mirror<\/h2>\n<p>Now we\u2019ll clean the mirror at the left end of the x-axis assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Loosen the black screw on top of the mirror housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_23.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide out the mirror and gently clean and dry it with a cotton swab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_24.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_25.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_26.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the mirror back in and retighten the black screw.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_27.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_28.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Periscope-Housing-Top\">Periscope Housing (Top) Optics Cleaning<\/h2>\n<p>For the outside of the window at the top of the periscope housing, gently clean and dry it with a cotton swab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_29.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, let\u2019s clean the optics inside the periscope housing.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the magnetic cover from the side of the mirror housing at the top of the periscope.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_30.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Loosen the black screw on top of the mirror housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_31.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide out the mirror and gently clean and dry it with a cotton swab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_32.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_33.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the mirror is out of its housing, gently clean and dry the inside of the window at the top of the periscope.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_34.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the mirror back in and retighten the black screw.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_35.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_36.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Reapply the magnetic cover to the side of the mirror housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_37.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Periscope-Housing-Bottom\">Periscope Housing (Bottom) Optics Cleaning<\/h2>\n<p>Remove the magnetic cover from the front of the mirror housing at the bottom of the periscope.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_38.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Loosen the black screw on the bottom of the mirror housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_39.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide out the mirror and gently clean and dry it with a cotton swab.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_40.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_41.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Slide the mirror back in and retighten the black screw.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_42.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_43.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Reapply the magnetic cover to the front of the mirror housing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion_optics_44.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Replace-Panels\">Replace Panels<\/h2>\n<p>Reinstall the two panels on the left side of the machine by using a 5\/32\u201d hex key to turn the black panel locks \u00be of the way clockwise.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
