{"id":18019,"date":"2024-09-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fusion-pro\/getting-started\/x-motor_edge\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T06:34:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T12:34:16","slug":"x-motor_edge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/support.epiloglaser.com\/staging\/laser-machine\/fusion-edge\/service-and-repair\/x-motor_edge\/","title":{"rendered":"X-Motor Replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"Remove-Side-Panels\">Remove Side Panel<\/h2>\n<p>Before we begin, make sure you turn off &#038; unplug the machine. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Using a 5\/32\u201d Allen wrench, remove the 8 Allen screws that secure the right-hand side panel, and set the panel off to one side. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_03.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Move to the front of the machine and pull the X-axis assembly to the center of the machine. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_04.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now move back to the right-hand side of the machine and locate the silver box that covers the X Motor Driver board. This is the motor drive cover. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_05.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Locate the two #1 Phillips screws that secure the front of the cover to the X-axis assembly and loosen these two screws. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_06.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Move to the rear of the rail and loosen the two screws at the rear of the X axis motor driver board cover. These screws do not need to be removed. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_07.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Remove the motor drive cover and set it to the side. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_08.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>At the motor driver board there are three motor leads that need to be disconnected. Each connector is unique and can only be installed in one location on the driver board.  All three connectors have locks that must be depressed for the connectors to come apart. Do not pull on the wires, instead pull on the connectors themselves to avoid dislodging the wires from the connectors. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_09.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_10.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Using an 7\/64\u201d Allen wrench, remove the two screws on the front of the motor mount. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_11.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Using the same 7\/64\u201d Allen wrench, move to the rear of the rail and remove the two remaining Allen screws that secure the motor. Note: there is one Allen screw obscured by a cable tie, move the cable tie enough to use the Allen wrench to remove the screw. If the cable tie is still in the way, it can be cut, but should be replaced once the motor replacement is complete to keep the wires out of harm\u2019s way. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_12.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_13.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now with the 7\/64\u201d Allen wrench, loosen the reducer drive belt adjustment screw located in the back of the motor mounting bracket. Note: Some earlier production machines do not have this additional screw, if yours does not you may skip this step. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_14.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now tilt the motor toward the engraver, slipping the Reducer drive belt from the X motor and remove the X motor from the machine. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_15.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Install-New-Motor\">Install the New Motor<\/h2>\n<p>While tilting the motor at about a 45-degree angle, loop the Reducer drive belt over the motor drive pulley. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_16.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_17.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Install one screw to the front side to hold the motor in place while the other three screws are installed. Do not tighten the screws fully. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_18.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_19.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Using the 7\/64\u201d Allen wrench to tension the reducer drive belt, tighten the reducer drive belt adjustment screw until the belt is no longer loose around the motor drive pulley. Again, if your machine does not have this additional screw, you may skip this step. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_20.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tighten the remaining motor mounting screws using the 7\/64\u201d Allen wrench. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_21.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Replace the cable tie if it was cut previously. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_22.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Reconnect the 3 harnesses that were disconnected from the motor driver board. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_23.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>With a #1 Phillips Screwdriver, replace the motor drive cover and tighten the four screws that secure it. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_24.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_25.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_26.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Using a 5\/32\u201d Allen wrench, install the 8 Allen screws that secure the right-hand side panel. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_27.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Plug in and power on the machine. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/fusion-edge_x-motor-replacement_28.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once complete, run an engraving test to ensure the results look correct.
