When to Calibrate the IRIS Camera System

When do I need to calibrate the IRIS camera system?

Introduction

Applies to: Fusion Maker • Fusion Edge • Fusion Pro • G100

All Fusion Maker, Edge, Pro, and G100 engravers are equipped with the IRIS™ camera system, which overlays your artwork onto the engraving table and material within the Epilog Dashboard software. The accuracy of this system depends on proper camera and focus calibration to ensure precise artwork placement.

When to Perform Camera Calibration

If your camera feed or engraving placement appears inaccurate, a calibration may be required. Perform a camera calibration when you observe any of the following:

  • Artwork misalignment:
The engraved output does not match the artwork placement shown in the Epilog Dashboard.

  • Camera rotation issues:
The camera feed appears rotated by 90° or 180° within the Dashboard.

  • Visual artifacts in the camera feed:
You notice any of the following irregularities:

    • A black semi-circle overlay.
    • A white or black bar covering areas of the feed.
  • Dual-camera misalignment:
The feed shows a distinct separation between the two overhead cameras on applicable systems.

  • Hardware changes:
A camera or the SD card in the control assembly has been replaced.

Tip: Make sure all focus calibrations are complete before performing a camera calibration.

What Camera Calibration Will Not Fix

A camera calibration will not fix:

  • Missing camera feeds in the Epilog Dashboard.
  • Missing camera streams on the engraver while in the Diagnostic Menu.
  • Camera accuracy issues caused by engraving at an incorrect focus distance.
